About this audiobook

2022 MYSTERY AUDIE AWARD WINNER!

A BRAND-NEW NOVEL FROM LEGENDARY STORYTELLER STEPHEN KING!

SOMETIMES GROWING UP MEANS FACING YOUR DEMONS

The son of a struggling single mother, Jamie Conklin just wants an ordinary childhood. But Jamie is no ordinary child. Born with an unnatural ability his mom urges him to keep secret, Jamie can see what no one else can see and learn what no one else can learn. But the cost of using this ability is higher than Jamie can imagine—as he discovers when an NYPD detective draws him into the pursuit of a killer who has threatened to strike from beyond the grave.

Later is Stephen King at his finest, a terrifying and touching story of innocence lost and the trials that test our sense of right and wrong. With echoes of King’s classic novel, It, Later is a powerful, haunting, unforgettable exploration of what it takes to stand up to evil in all the faces it wears.

Editor's Note

Frightening afternoon…

Like many of Stephen King’s other beloved classics, “Later” blends true-to-life coming-of-age elements with unforgettable thrills and chills. Jamie Conklin might seem like an ordinary boy, except for the fact that, for better or worse, he can communicate with the recently deceased. The one thing that’s not frightening about “Later” is its length: you can read it in an afternoon (followed by a sleepless night).

This book really held my interest from beginning to end. The reader was not boring, kept me interested and Also had a great tone to his voice. I did not think it was boring at all. Finally something to read that was different. I wanted more and couldn’t put the book down.

Seth Numrich does a great job as the narrator, and the story is lean and engaging. Has a definite horror aspect despite the hard case crime billing, and it works well.

One of the best King books I’ve read in a long time. It’s thankfully a bit less patterned than his typical stories and had a unique premise to it.
Absolutely fantastic narration made Jamie’s character truly come to life - will definitely be seeking out more of his readings.
    Definitely recommend.

An edge of the seat story, filled with realistic characters and a darker plot. A great read and a great audiobook! Easily one of my favourites.

Loved the narrator and what he brought to the story. Loved everything about this book except the ending. Characters were awesome and the communication so realistic. This was a bit vanilla for King but that didn't bother me because it was so well written. But the ending left me with a bit of dissatisfaction. It felt finalized instead of brought to an ending. It is certainly worth the listen to for the storyline and the narration. I would recommend it unless your looking for gorey/horror then don't bother. Sorry.

This is my favorite Stephan King book, so far. Maybe because I like spooky stories & horror fiction, but it was so intoxicating.

I'm going to tread carefully to stay spoiler free, but this is now in my top three favorite King books. I absolutely love the reference that appeared in here and hope this might have a sequel to further tie those two books and their characters together.

I got quite a few laughs out of this story as well. I listened to the audiobook version and the narrator did a splendid job.

Quick read. Really appreciated the talented narrator of the audiobook. King spins a good yarn, but this one lacks the spiritual depth of my favorites among his books.

If King didn't write this it might not have been published. 6th sense ripoff that doesn't progress, and as is often typical of King, a meh ending. Narrator of audiobook does a great job.

The narrator was fantastic but the story was not what I expected. It was not scary in the traditional sense, not as gripping as many King novels.

Audiobook kept jumping ahead or going quiet for extended periods of time. Think that really took away from some of the prose. Suppose I’ll have to read the physical book to get some of those bits I missed.

Couldn’t have been due to my connection as I downloaded the book. Hope Scribd fixes this for users hoping to read/hear Later..

Jamie sees dead people. Between that and a trip back to the Marsden house of 'salems lot, there is a lot to like in this book. One main antagonist is Thumper the mad bomber who has an almost Urban Legend aura surrounding him.

The story is very well told. I’m an avid Stephen king fan and in my opinion it stands out in the way the story is told as well as how it neatly unfolds. It was told in a very matter of fact way which felt more concise or easier to keep up. One single vantage point. I see clearly how it fits into the King omniverse but in a covert way. I hope he continues Jamie’s story because I think it has amazing potential to ultimately answer some questions that all serious King fan definitely have!

THE NARRATION ON THIS WAS VERY WELL DONE. "HE SEES GHOSTS, BUT NOT LIKE IN THE BRUCE WILLIS MOVIE." This is the story of Jamie and his mom and the gift he was given . It helpful in some ways, so help loved ones get answers from the dead. Not when the wrong person finds out about this. Great story, characters always richly written by King and an odd unexpected conclusion.

I liked the writing and the mystery kept me going but in the end it seemed like all that build up amounted to nothing. Still I had a good time reading, hence the 4 star rating.
